More About Nonduality

People who want to understand or know nonduality often seek to satisfy a desire for unity and connection with all-that-is.

Understanding nonduality takes many forms:

Nonduality is known via awakened consciousness, mathematical equation, spiritual guidance, and embodied experience.

You may have felt your own consciousness awakening via a meaningful experience in nature (like a beautiful sunset), during a quiet time in prayer or contemplation, in deep communion with a loved one, when freely moving your body dancing or engaged in athletic activity. These are some embodied experiences of nonduality.

Scientists create equations and theories to demonstrate that everything originated from a “one” that exploded (the Big Bang). They postulate that everything is ultimately made of the same stardust, an all one or nondual universe. Albert Einstein led the way.

Ancient Western Philosophers originated the idea of “Monism,” everything is derived from “The One,” and Socrates discoursed on this idea as a life perspective.

Monotheist religions (Judaism, Islam, Christianity) unite everything under the guardianship of “The One and Only God.” Contemporary theologian Friar Richard Rohr discusses this nondual perspective extensively.

Eastern Philosophers are spiritual teachers, and offer up many pathways to nonduality, calling those pathways such names as Zen, Adviata Vedanta, Yoga, the "one taste" path.

“Our bodies remember suffering, even when we claim to have transcended it…”

Why Nonduality?

Nondual experience is an awakening of our fundamental nature. Our fundamental nature is the most subtle state of being. It can be recognized in our fundamental nature is the spark of our own aliveness. It's a thought or a feeling or a location inside our bodies.

Our fundamental nature an internal experience that can be identified subtly and simply as “this is me, not you, alive here." Some people feel this more strongly than others, but all humans can experience this subtle aspect of themselves.

This is our birthright as members of the human species, yet it has become mysterious and inaccessible to only a few "masters" for generations.

Our ongoing awareness of the essential unity of pervasive connection, noticed even as our experiences move through the still unchanging fundamental nature of the present moment, has been lost. But now it is being found again in the blossoming of a growing awareness of nondual consciousness.

Our fundamental nature remains unchanged from the moment of birth to the moment of death.

Our fundamental nature never changes from birth to death. It is unaffected by any of the events in our life. Our fundamental nature is our most authentic self, free of emotional struggles, physical pain, and mental indoctrination.

It feels good to live authentically. Nonduality opens us to our authentic truth in the present moment. We act based on what feels most meaningful or satisfying or appropriate right now, rather than make choices based on habitual or anxiety-based patterns of response.

Awakening our fundamental nature provides us with the means to realize that very subtle, non-conceptual, unbounded consciousness. This realization is nondual awareness.

By the way, our fundamental nature isn’t really such a small spark. Our human species seems to have forgotten how to awaken our awareness and the experience of our own aliveness in our bodies. Expanding our perception of our fundamental nature so that we experience it as the wholeness of our being is an essential practice in Realization Process.

Why Embodied Nonduality?

The fixations that obscure nonduality are not only conceptual, so using only the mind at attention will limit awareness of emotions and sensations to only what the mind perceives. Plus, nondual awareness knows wholeness of being as not only the phenomena in the present moment, but also the still, unchanging spaciousness the phenomena pervade.

We cannot use just our minds or hearts or “letting go” to open completely to our fundamental nature. As humans, we have long-held constrictions in our body (based on subtle psychological/emotional choices we made to deal with our environment as children). The “holding patterns” limit our perception, cognition, emotional responsiveness, and physical sensations. It’s not enough for us to simply let go of our grip on ourselves for nondual reality to appear. That grip for the most part is unconscious and deeply entrenched in our bodies.

Realization Process is a Direct Path to embodied nondual awakening and also a Practice Path to stable (continuous, on-going, self-arising) experience of wholeness of being as embodied nonduality. The meditations embody your experience of your fundamental nature and guide you in self-awakening practices to unwind, unbind, and disentangle the holding patterns that obscure pervasive, fully embodied, nondual awareness.
